A client recently asked me to licence a reasonably popular song for a promo video of his. I instantly agreed, as I always do when clients ask me to do things I have no idea how to do, and set out to find out how to licence said song. I didn’t really stop to think that the artist may not want me to use their song to advertise something, and that if they did, the cost might be in the thousands of dollars… worth thinking about.
Alternatives listed in this article include making a sound-alike version of the song yourself, which might be the route I choose.
